Driven by the love of good coffee and a passion for innovation, founder Gerard C. Smit designed the first Moccamaster coffee brewer in 1968.

The Moccamaster story begins with Dutch industrial engineer Gerard Clement Smit’s passion for invention and love of coffee. Early in his career, Mr. Smit provided industrial design services for other firms, but he always knew he wanted to forge his way and go into business. In 1964, that vision became a reality when he founded his own company called Technivorm.

After years of Clement Smit’s detailed research and development, Technivorm debuted its first filter coffee brewer in the Netherlands in 1969. In 1971, they introduced this coffee brewer to the Scandinavian market and gave it the name we know today: the Moccamaster. They are still handmade in the heart of the Netherlands, certified by the SCA Golden Cup Standard, and backed by a 5-year warranty from Technivorm.
